cylindricalsquare-deactivated20 asked: I'm interested in getting a tokay at my local expo this weekend, any thing you could tell me that I need to know or advice? :)

    Yay tokays!

Unfortunately, I am an utter and complete n00b at keeping tokays, so I really don’t have any advice for you that you won’t find in the caresheets online, but perhaps others here have advice for you?

I guess one thing I am doing is instead of giving Lothaire (my baby) two weeks to settle in like I would wait for my cresteds and gargs, I am waiting until he gets more comfortable in his tank until I start handling him. He currently hides all the time and just doesn’t explore much (and I have been waking up in the middle of the night to check on him), so I am hoping he opens up a little more before I start bugging him with hand taming.

    Good luck!

Eury needed a bath today. She had her first stuck shed! >.< And her humidity was perfect! So weird. I also weighed her today and she’s a whopping 1500 g. #proudmama

When people say their snake is a whopping 1500, 1600, even 1700 grams, I worry. I worry because my “male” ball python is almost 2000 grams….Also this is a gorgeous ball :]

Are you worrying because you think I am not taking good care of her? She’s not particularly lacking in food offerings :( She definitely lives up to her species problem of being a picky eater and I have been struggling to get her weight up safely. She accepts about every other feeding, averaging one medium/large rat every 12 days-ish and not showing any signs of stress right now. I am worrying because this time last year she stopped eating through winter and I did not think she was of sufficient weight to start doing that nonsense. So yeah, I am a proud mama for her finally gaining weight and filling out her ball chunkiness ^_^

OH NO! I’m worried because WHY DOES SNIFFIE WEIGH SO MUCH?? I wonder why he’s so huge, and I am really doubting he’s male at all, lol.. and your female weighs less than my male… hahaha. And yeah Sniffie just refused his first rat of the “winter.” blagh.

Oh yeeeeey! I was about to put my mama-smack-down-pants on. It’s entirely possible they got Eury’s sex wrong when I purchased her; she could be a he! But “she’s” also still stacking on the pounds. I think I recall hearing that the males can definitely weigh into the 2000 grams, but I can’t support that with any sources :/ Good luck with winter feedings, Sniffie and Bowrll!

Both my male gargs are high-strung, jumpy boys and rather slow growers, too. Since moving them to opaque tubs and storing their tubs in a rack with covered sides, they’ve both calmed down considerably during handling and started putting on weight. Interesting!

I am going to try this with all my males. FOR SCIENCE
